My First Year in Engineering College: A Journey of Surprises
Chapter 1: Admission, familiar faces and new connections
Once upon a time, in a bustling city, there was a teen named Vikramaditya and that’s me writing this, sharing with all readers my journey in engineering first year filled with exciting twists and turns.
My journey began with a bit of a hiccup. It was already late for the college entrance tests, due to COVID-19. So after 3 months of waiting past the exam, gathering all documents, CAP rounds and all, I secured admission in college 'Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering and Technology' in the IT branch.
Firstly, I was placed in the Computer Science (CS) branch, but due to a mistake we made in filling out the CAP round 2 form, I finally got placed in the IT branch. It was a bit disappointing at first, but little did I know that this would make my experience unique and memorable.
I found solace in the fact that my roommates were my old classmates from school. We stuck together, helping each other through all the problems and challenging assignments, relying on the shared memories we had built over the years.
Chapter 2: College Life
As time went on, I began to immerse myself in college life. The hostel became a vibrant hub where I met students from different engineering branches. It was an opportunity to make new friends and explore their diverse interests and talents. Each and everyone had some uniqueness in them; I felt like I found characters of some kind of drama, in real life. Everyone had some unique qualities.
However, not everything was smooth sailing. The new classmates and teachers brought their own set of challenges. Some teachers struggled to explain the subjects effectively, leaving us to figure things out on our own. Some teachers were literally just degree holders. Engineering Graphics (EG), Engineering Mathematics (EM), and Basic Electrical Engineering (BEE) felt particularly tough.
Chapter 3: Exams, dreams and reality
Once, while having lunch in the hostel mess, an email arrived with our mid-semester exam timetable and we felt completely lost. I had no idea how to prepare for it. Doubts filled my mind, making me wonder if I would ever understand these subjects or pass any of them.
But during this time, I discovered something within myself. I will say I discovered something on the internet rather than in me. So, there was a new AI revolution going on in the world due to the launch of an AI named ChatGPT and the whole world changed. I nearly cleared all my doubts using this new technology, and yes, YouTube was there too. These two tools are heaven for students to learn anything in the world.
One thing I learned in engineering college life is that you always start studying just one day before the exam. Those who have just passed the entrance exam must have been thinking, "Now I will study hard in college, get a good GPA, and be the topper of the first year." But trust me, nothing happens as expected. When you come into this new world of engineering college, you will realize that marks and positions don’t really matter. The only thing that matters is your skills and knowledge that you’ll gather from this phase. And that's why in engineering, you don’t care much about studies.
So, the day of the mid-semester exam arrived, and I felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness. This was the first time in my life I scored the lowest. It was one of the highest in our class, but for me, in my life, it was the lowest. But who would have thought that there was more to come...
